finals. well 2 finals. i got extensions in the other two. so i need to finish up my portfolio and write a paper. homework over break, gag! I'm going to try and finish them up before i go to Washington. we'll see how disciplined i can be, pfffft.
here are some picture of my finals escapade....
this is a photo stich of the knit room at school.
ALSO....
the cactus "general router" has bloomed!
It's Monday so it's knitwear night! but not before i rediscover my love of the all but forgotten public library. people! it's like netflix for books! i can check out 40 things at once! I can download audiobooks from their affiliate website netlibrary.com!! however i refuse to download e-books because i find that to be blasphemous. I'm going to go to the main branch of the OPL later this week for some historical costume/textile research. I'm writing on fashion and it's importance in 19th century novels. info like that is found in books, not the internet that is crawling with ren-faire freaks and reenactment nerds (no offence, but historically accurate you frequently arent!). so it looks like i still <3 the library....
now on to the knit shit!
ok so this is the last time i use all black in a swatch. this is cables with ladders and faux ribbing on the end.
This is recycled cotton yarn that we got from goodwill and this is my experiment with holding and braiding and with real ribbing.
i have a partial garment or glove or something due next week, guh along with a new garment and collection, so much work! But i think i will go with the cables and ladders and ribbing for my arm-warmer/ fingerless glove thing i only have to do one but there are some over achievers in the class that are doing actual garments and i hate them. but i have a ton of shit due so i need to stop blogging and start working my ass off, litterally, i mean i'm sure i've mentioned how much i hate being as big as i am. i would love to be america ferrera size (shes a 12 i think). ugh, thats a whole other blog. maybe after therapy tomorrow i'll blog more about that....
This is some of my newer work in monochrome. my colors have yet to be decided. all my fabrics are silks, charmuse, organza, cross dye dupioni so far. I have newer designs for this collection but, one of the heads of the fashion department picked it out to be in the nave for alumni night and open house night on the san francisco campus! :)
this weekend i helped my roomate build her fall wardrobe. it was a great adventure at the nordstroms rack in san leandro. the sad part was my walk thru the plus sized section. ugly empire tops followed by even uglier wrap tops and giant boxy t-shirts with hideous designs. i found some svoboda jeans on sale but not a god dammned one in my size!! oh well, it's not like i had money for clothes anyways. i was well compensated for my stylist abilities; i got a bottle of my bed head shampoo, a ceramic boar bristle round brush, a burrito, a rice krispies treat, peanut m&ms, and corona. it's like $11/hr.
so while i was out shopping today i studied some knits. in the most illegal way possible. well i don't know if it's really illegal but i doubt that they would be happy had they known. this is what i found!

my roomate tiffany in a french connection UK capelette with travelling pointelles (i think) and reverse jersey pleated nicely into a big ribbed collar. she was not a fan of the garment but like a dear, amused me for the sake of homework.

i dont understand this cable, it was probably done by hand. sweater by premise.

this is a great brand for adorable feminine knitwear. their pointelle work is nice but i was more interested in its edging around the collar and sleeves.
